Late Hindi Film Actor Shyam 1941- 1951
Shyam was regarded as one of the most good-looking leading men of Hindi cinema by old timers. Hindi cinema historians are certain that if not for his untimely death when he fell off a horse while shooting for Shabistan (1951), the face of Hindi cinema in the 1950s would have been very different, as at the time, Shyam was as big a star as the Trimurti that would rule Hindi cinema in the 50s
Shyam graduated from Gordon College. He was a close personal friend of Sadat Hasan Manto a well known writer and film journalilst and was the inspiration of many of his stories. Even after partition their bond of friendship endured. One of his famous movies was Bazar released in 1949 where he starred with Nigar Sultana. He married a , Mumtaz Qureshiin, with whom he had daughter Saira Kazmi. Shyam died on the set of the film Shabistan.The last few scenes of the movie were completed by a person named Mir Sahib Khan who belonged to Behram khan khel
I Adv.Vikram Swaran Singh Chadha, resident of 39/56,Adhar,Lane9,Prabhat road, Pune 411004, Maharashtra, Tel no-020 25433563/9970156269, also a film historian of sorts. I am a nephew of Late Actor Shyam Chadha, who started his career from the above mentioned address in early 40′s , whose career was short lived with a tragic accident while shooting for his last film Shabistan 1951, opposite Nassema Banoo in Mumbai.
The then Mumbai Corporation named a street as Shyam Park, now known as Maitreyi Park in Chembur in his memory, where some of the other legendary actors like: Ashok Kumar, Om Prakash besides Shyam had their residences.
The street name now dosen’t feature anymore the Late actors name.
As his nephew in India and on behalf of his zillons of fans in India and abroad we are concerned of the same.
It would be nice enough on part of our Brihan Mumbai Corporation BMC under whose jurisdication comes the same to correct the same if possible.
