why does my DVD player play black and white when hooked up to my LCD HDTV?

I have a Samsung 23inch 2333HD LCD TV. I hooked up a small sony DVD player with the typical red, white, and yellow cables. I have tried every combo hooking it up and I can get audio and video but the video is in black and white.

I have to use the tv remote and scroll through the input to find the color version.

Mine had b/w too but changing input on tv remote will scroll to color
