Hank Moody on Californication Season 4
The series follows the exploits of writer Hank Moody (David Duchovny in his Golden Globe Award-winning and SAG Award-nominated role) as he works to balance his career, ex-girlfriend, daughter and hedonistic vices. This year, the economy and lack of book sales force Hank into teaching at a Los Angeles university. Will he be able to keep it together while guiding the next generation of scribes? Californication is created by Tom Kapinos and executive produced by Kapinos, Duchovny and Gina Fattore.
After a record breaking Season 3 Premiere, Californication is officially going for round 4 in 2010. Showtime Networks President of Entertainment Robert Greenblatt announced that twelve new episodes of Californication will premiere in 2010.
The Season 3 Premiere garnered record-breaking viewership, up 57% from season two. It seems that people just can’t get enough of Hank Moody and his hilariously-vain sexual exploits. And, who can blame them? Step aside Vinny Chase, David Duchovny is unmatched as the single-father and bachelor king of California. It’s one thing to be a millionaire success, it’s another to be a washed up writer who just can’t help fornicating with every piece of the California pie.
On the season finale, just as the womanizer chose to settle down with Karen, he received a surprise visit from Mia. The end result, and final scene, was of Hank being dragged away in handcuffs, as Karen and Becca look on helplessly.
“I always thought that it would be the right endpoint,” series creator Tom Kapinos told TV Guide. “That secret with Mia — the fact that [Hank] slept with her and Karen doesn’t know about it — is such a huge part of the show and was a huge part of the pilot. To a degree, by the time you get to Season 3, the audience had kind of forgotten about it. So it felt like the right time to bring it back. On another show you might wait to the end of the series to answer that question, but I always vaguely knew that’s how I wanted the season to end.”
Where does this cliffhanger leave Hank in season four?
While the fourth season of Californication won’t premiere on Showtime for months, the show has announced a pair of major casting decisions.
Carla Gugino and Addison Timlin have both nabbed multiple-episode arcs on the David Duchovny dramedy. Gugino, who recurred on Entourage as Vince’s agent, will play a new love interest for Hank Mood. Her character will be a corporate attorney.
Timlin, meanwhile, will appear in eight episodes. She’ll portray a movie actress.
