There Are Big Stars That Are Also Cars
If a auto is featured seriously in an iconic movie or television show, it can make that vehicle famous. Sometimes about as famous as every little thing else in the movie or show. Famous cars could hold value for decades, and fetch high prices at dealerships or on the auction block. Sometimes, it’s deliberate. Hollywood has no compunction about using “product placement” to boost sales for auto makers.
Cars can be as much of a scene stealer as anything else
Lots of individuals know of iconic cars from TV or motion picture. You can probably think of a couple of off the top of your head. Some people even purchase them. If you buy a cool automobile from a cool TV show or movie that makes you awesome to a lot of people. Here’s a small list of some true classics from movies and TV. It is by no means comprehensive.
- The Chevy Camaro; numerous a TV show and movie have had Camaros in them. Among the lots of the recent “Lost” auction was a Camaro from various episodes. There was a classic and brand new Camaro within the “Transformers” film sequence. Granted, it was probably due to Gm paying a lot for it, but it certainly helped their marketing and sales.
- Ford Mustang – The 1968 The Ford Mustang GT Fastback was famously within the movie “Bullitt,” starring Steve McQueen. There was also a 1967 Shelby GT500 and a 1973 Mach 1 within the remake and original, in that order, of the movie “Gone in 60 Seconds.” Ford even offered a “Bullitt” package on the 2001 Mustang.
- The DeLorean DMC – 12; the only car ever made by DeLorean was made a star by “Back to the Future”. When it came out, though, it was not the smash hit the movie was. It was considered an underpowered mechanical lemon that happened to look cool.
- Dodge Charger – not only did a 1968 Charger chase Steve McQueen in “Bullitt,” a Charger was “General Lee” from the “Dukes of Hazard” TV series and recent film, and it was featured in Quentin Tarantino’s “Deathproof.”
- The Pontiac Trans Am – this Firebird performance package, which had a factory package boasting a ridiculous 455 in. plant was a virtual co-star within the “Smokey and the Bandit” films, and was modified as the iconic “KITT” in the “Knight Rider” motion picture series.
Nobody does it greater
No automobile, before or since, has come anywhere near to the iconic status of the Aston Martin DB5. An auction held various years ago had as one of the lots a DB5 that was really used in the movie “Goldfinger.” It went for over $2 million. The “James Bond” franchise and Aston Martin have a long history. “Goldfinger” and a number of other films featured the DB5. The new generation of Aston Martins were in “Die Another Day,” “Casino Royale,” and “Quantum of Solace,” and “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” had a late 60′s DBS. Not a soul expects the link between Bond and Aston Martin to die. The movie series may have given the car maker the Midas Touch.
