What is an example of a chemical chain reaction?
What is an example of a chemical chain reaction? Sort of similar to the video on youtube with the mentos, and the coke. 
Well, there are many different types of chemical chain reactions.
One example can be what you mention, about the mentos and cola.
What happens there is that the surface of the mentos acts as a catalyst for releasing almost all the gaseous carbon dioxide that is solved in the liquid (cola) at once. This happens because the mentos has a sharped edged surface on a molecular level (does not feel that way in your mouth though) that helps the carbon dioxide to release it self from the liquid solution.
Another example can be polymerization, when you form a gel, or plastic.
Plastic materials can be made form gas! One radical starts a chain reaction to form chains of molecules with 10 000 -100 000 of atoms in it.
Another chemical/physical chain reaction is of course also how a nuclear bomb works. And in a nuclear power plant these chain reactions are controlled so they dont get out of hand, and causes a explosion.
