Cosby Show

I Weekly Magazine Takes On The View’S Barbara Walters
Okay so I have been so excited about the Inauguration of President Barack Obama right. So I call myself recording the morning shows so I could catch all the reactions the next day on certain television shows like The View. So as I sit down to watch I’m all excited to hear what the ladies on the View had to say about our new President and First Lady Michelle Obama. It was just then when the matriarch of the show Barbara Walters opens her mouth and inserts her dainty foot. Not to get into the all the details but Barbara Walters proceeds to say that she believed that all the hope and excitement America had about the Inauguration was because finally White America had an image of a Black family being together for the first time since the Cosby show. (Yes brakes are screeching all over America) WHAT BARBARA??? Did you really say that? Yes she did and when Sherry Sheppard tried to interrupt and stop her from digging herself into a deeper hole she proceeds to tell Sherry, “Don’t get me in trouble here let me just finish.” No Barbara we think you said ENOUGH!!!! But then she goes on to say let’s face it “we” America have only seen black women raising the families. Sometimes when someone tries to stop you just stop! One could see the disappointment on Whoopi’s face as she hung her head like no she didn’t go there.
A message to Ms. Walters the Cosby show is not real. As Sherry pointed out it was indeed a television show. It fairly depicted accurately that yes we do have families where one parent is a lawyer and the other is a doctor. There are black families all over America low-income, middle class and upper class where black families stay together and the father does not leave. In my own middle-class up bringing my dad was present and never left. My own husband is present. I have uncles who never left. My brother and brother-in-law never left their families. My grandfathers never left their families.
Ms. Walters you are watched by millions and should be more responsible in your comments and depictions of black families especially if you don’t have a clue what you are talking about. Are there single moms raising kids? Yes, but guess what they are not only Black they are white, Hispanic, Asian and every other race. Blacks do not have the monopoly on single mothers raising their families.
The excitement that you saw all over America was not because finally we have a black family that has a father present it was because finally there was proof that hope does finally exist in America. That though hard work and dedication that “ANYONE” in this United States of America can have their dreams come true and that success does not elude them because of the color their skin. For America finally does encompass all Americans not just whites, but Asians, Hispanics and Blacks too. It’s a New Day!
