Tom And Jerry Movies The Ideal Gift For All Ages

Animated cartoon series have been a part of most people’s childhood, bugs bunny; daffy duck, the Flintstones and the smurf’s have been around for well over a decade and still make an appearance on millions of television screens around the world. Though one particular cartoon for kids that stands out above the rest is Tom and Jerry; if you were growing up through the 70’s and 80’s you will be all too familiar with this comical cat and mouse duo. The plot is simple, Tom is a cat and Jerry is mouse and even though they are friends at heart they love nothing better than to torment each other; usually with Jerry coming out on top.No matter what mischief they get up to the comedic duo always end up settling things and becoming friends at the end, it’s the slap stick humor in between that gets us ll rolling on the floor with laughter.

How it all began?

Not many people realize that Tom and Jerry has had several creators, though the original artists will always be William Hanna and Joseph Barbara two talented cartoonists and directors who are also responsible for, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, yogi bear and a whole line of other well known cartoon for kids. They worked for MGM until the late 50’s when things changed and the studio shut down for some time. In the 60’s a slightly eccentric creative director from the Czech Republic, his slightly surreal ideas weren’t accepted by MGM and 3 years later Chuck Jones became the regular creator; you can now find Tom and Jerry DVD box sets containing only the episodes of each of the 3 creators in one.

You’re favorite and mine

After Tom and Jerry was made into a feature length film that people began to take cartoons seriously; several films were made by MGM who invited guest directors to help in the production. In total Tom and Jerry movies were awarded 7 Oscar awards for best animated shorts making it one of the first ever successful animations of all time. There are several great Tom and Jerry DVD set available, do a quick search and you will find a long list of complete episode sets and feature length variety.
The latest Tom and Jerry movie was released in 2006 written in collaboration by the 2 original writers William and Joseph some years before the unfortunate passing of William Hanna, which makes this quite a collector’s item. The title of the movie is “shiver me whiskers” a clever play on the pirate catch phrase shiver me timbers, which suits the overall pirate theme of the film.

The film begins with both Tom and Jerry working aboard a pirate ship sailing in search of lost treasure, as usual Tom has Jerry working for him everything is running as normal until a treasure map washes on board the ship. This is where the comical antics begin, as Tom and Jerry, plus a whole host of zany characters fight to find and own the treasure; unfortunately the map has been cursed giving our dynamic duo a few days to locate it before bad luck befalls them.
