Dark Shadows
Why do drug abusers have very dark shadows under their eyes?
At least, that’s how they are portrayed in hollywood movies.
What causes that exactly? Why don’t other regions become dark as well?

Basically, its because of Bacteria, etc. Drugs usually cause an immune suppression, etc. This prevents the body from fighting off the bacteria that help produce the spots in some of the cases. There are of course other reasons, but usually the spots are associated with people that don’t sleep.
Hollywood of course exploits the stereotype that people that do drugs, don’t sleep, and thus the person with dark eyes = druggie in those types of movies. I have known a couple patients that get 8 hours of sleep/ night, and end up using make-up to cover the splotches, hope this helps.
