The Concept of Death in Islam (2) the Death is created
This is the second article of the series, The Concept of Death in Islam.
In this article, the Quran states that the Death is created, for a reason.
In the verses 67:1-2, the Quran says that Allah has created both the Death and the Life.
- Without death we could not understand what is life, and
- Without life we could not understand what Death is.
- So, man is created between life and death.
From day one of man’s creation, the counter of his predetermined age starts in a decreasing order day by day until he finally dies.
It has been related in Islamic tradition that the people of Paradise will fear Death but the people of Hell will wish for Death.
What will happen for both? The answer of this question will come up in this series.
But, what is the wisdom of the creation of both the Death and the Life?
So that Allah may try you,
- Which of you is best in conduct?
- Which of you is more sincere in works?
Allah is Mighty in retribution against those who disbelieve in Him,
Allah is Forgiving; He forgives those who repent and believe in Him.
Verses 67:1-2 in four different translations
QARIB:
1blessed be he in whose hand is the kingdom, he is powerful over all things,
2who created Death and life that he might examine which of you is best in deeds, and he is the almighty, the forgiving,
SHAKIR:
1blessed is he in whose hand is the kingdom, and he has power over all things,
2who created Death and life that he may try you– which of you is best in deeds; and he is the mighty, the forgiving,
PICKTHAL:
1blessed is he in whose hand is the sovereignty, and, he is able to do all things.
2 who hath created life and Death that he may try you which of you is best in conduct; and he is the mighty, the forgiving,
YUSUFALI:
1blessed be he in whose hands is dominion; and he over all things hath power;-
2 he who created Death and life, that he may try which of you is best in deed: and he is the exalted in might, oft-forgiving;-
