It is the avowed solemn oath, taken by the Devil himself, namely to make you deny and disbelieve in God. Once the Devil succeeds in his task and makes you reject God, he denies his own deed that he has made you disbelieve in God. It is the Devil, after all!
He carries on what he was created for by tempting you to sin against God and then releases himself like a hair from dough.
Whether you believe in the Devil or not, this is not the question. Whether you think that devil is capable of doing evil and wrong to you or he does not, it is just the same. You are certainly subject to the devil. If you cannot see God it does not mean that God does not exist.
The devil has made your parents Adam and Eve sin against God, according to the Scriptures. He was the first creature in the universe to disobey the command of God. He set himself to make humans go astray from the path of God and to against His path. He is the avowed enemy of God and hence of humans.
He has no mercy, no pity and certainly no good in his. He is pure evil. He is the Devil, after all!
He has, we are told in the Gospel, tempted Jesus Christ himself. Three times the Devil tempted jesus to go against God and bow unto him, abandoning the worship of God. Three temptations were administered to Jesus Christ, after forty days of fasting, where he was at his weakest and was open to any offers or contracts made by the Devil.
Satan, the arch Devil himself came to the desert to meet with Jesus Christ and offered him the whole kingdoms of the earth, with all its glory, riches and renown. In return, the Devil wanted Jesus to deny God and abstain from His worship and to prostrate unto the Devil. Jesus declined the Devil’s offer and rejected to leave the worship of God and to prostrate unto the devil.
The Devil’s ways are unlimited and his power is granted by His maker and such power is undeniably strong over his victims, of which you and I can be subject to, and all the time. The Devil is in wait all the time and tempts you unrelentlessly all the time.
He does not tire, he does not sleep, he does not eat or drink, he is simply there bedside you all the time of your life, to persuade you to do evil and dissuade you from doing good.
He exploits everything he has in his power and uses everything in your life that you desire and need. He is an expert in exploiting your impulses and lusts. He knows that you are weak in front of all means of temptations like money, riches, wealth, glory, power, position, fame, possessions, good reputation, honors, sex, having children, rich metals, like gold, silver and the rest, property and control over others. He knows you would like to be the master of the earth and knows exactly how to use to make you succumb his temptations.
The devil tempts you but you have, like Jesus Christ, the freedom and will to reject what the Devil offers you. He has the task of tempting you and you have the right and responsibility to reject the Devil’ offer, the Devil’s contract.
Jesus Christ has perfectly succeeded in refusing the Devil’s temptation and he demanded him to go away, and the Devil simply went away.
You can do the same! Why not! Christ shows you the way, and you can do it too! You are made to fast forty days and be in a lifeless desert alone. You live your life and you are open in every way to the Devil.
In the Qur’anic text, we read also, about how a human being must not succumb to the temptations of the Devil. And how an individual can get rid of the Devil, simply by taking heed in God.
The Devil has no power and no control over those who reject him. But he has all power and control over those who accept him and submit their will unto him.
