Speed Up Computers – 5Easy Steps
It is always feels nice to sit down with a computer that gives you everything you need without letting you wait. The truth though is, unless your computer is brand new and your OS is newly installed, you are likely to end up with a very slow computer. But, a little know how on fixing your pc and on how to speed up computers can make you achieve the speed that new computers dish out. Here are some information that could help you :
Delete some files and free up some disk space. To allow your pc to operate smoothly, at least 25% of its disk space must be free. It would be even better if 50% is left unused.
To free up some disk space, Microsoft provides a very efficient disk cleanup tool that automatically sorts out the content of your hard drives and remove those that you don’t need. This tool does it by removing temporary internet files and other temporary files, file debris of some downloaded programs, the contents of your Recycle bin, unessential restore points, and installed programs that are rarely used. It also determines and recommends files that can be deleted and files that can’t be deleted. On top of these, disk cleanup also gives you options whether to delete or not delete based on your preferences.
Another good method of removing unnecessary files by manually editing the contents in your Control Panel.
Run the Defragmentation Tool. Disk fragmentation is among the major reasons why your computer slows down. This is because a heavily defragmented disk takes up more computer resources before it can locate individual files, over all affecting the pc’s speed. Regularly running the Disk Defragmenter to check and sort out misplaced files can do your pc some good. With files that are properly sorted out, your pc will find it much easier to process information.
Detect Disk Errors and Repair Them. Bad sectors can occur in your hard disk through a number of reasons, among them is heavy and regular computer usage. These bad sectors effectively slow your pc’s speed down and in many occasions, make creating and saving new files a bit impossible. If you use your computer daily, run the Error Checking Utility regularly, preferably every week, to fix the drives’ bad sectors to prevent data loss.
Check for Malware. Malware like virus, spyware and adware, just like non-malicious computer programs, use up computer resources on top of corrupting their targeted files (in the case of Trojans and viruses) and illegitimately accessing your personal information (in the case of spyware and adware). Seriously consider scanning your pc using a malware protection program and anti-malware software programs if you suspect the presence of a malware.
Use the new memory extension technology, the ReadyBoost. For Windows Vista and Windows 7 users, ReadyBoost is a good tool to automatically speed up computers. This adds extra memory to your computer by relying on a non-volatile flash memory. This extra memory works to provide additional memory cache which is much easier to access than traditional hard drives.
