Divorce Means Separating Two People
The dictionary defines divorce as the dissolution of a marriage and the separation between things that should go together. Divorce can prove to be very disturbing and surprising for a lot of spouses who are faced with the end of their marriage. Some of that dismay might come from figuring out they were never right at the time they wed and believed they belonged together.
Some of my friends who have gotten a divorce talk about how amazed they were at their feeling of failure. However, having once been divorced myself, my reaction was different from the people with whom I have discussed it. Years before I told my husband, I thought about leaving the marriage and gaining my freedom. When the discussion happened I was not surprised. He was the one who was shocked.
The feeling of failure was because I thought I should have recognized before we married that my husband and I were actually not things that should go together. Our families would have avoided much misery and wasted money had we only known of this fact.
We were childless, thus our circumstance may have differed from couples with children who divorce. The reality that no children were involved in the situation may have have some influence on my feelings and emotions. I was relieved when it was done, not shocked or feeling like a failure.
However, from multiple discussions with divorced acquaintances who have kids, it’s apparent that divorce is harder on kids than the separated persons. After all, the outcome of the decision to divorce has a huge influence on children who have had not been involved in that decision.
When 2 people decide to get married, part of the reason is because they are sure that they belong together. As expected, we are not including the couples who do it for money or immigration reasons. The truth is no one can know whether or not they belong together unless they have lived together before. Many years ago my mother told me. As a matter of fact, she said that you can never really know anyone until you work with them or live with them.
After studying the meaning of divorce from a dictionary, I think that often people marry the person they feel will complement them and when this does not turn out, the result is divorce. Later, after they’ve lived together and maybe even after they’ve had children together, they realize that they don’t get along that well. And then the end comes, and they just divorce.
