How to make a Chinese bootleg DVD work?

My roommate just brought back a bootleg copy of the second season of Lost from China. I got to about episode 15 and it stopped working. As we all know, Lost is not one of those shows you can just watch some episodes of, you MUST WATCH ALL. I am going crazy!
I have tried it in the DVD player, the playstation2 and the computer. I can get the farthest with the playstation, the ohter 2 platfroms won’t read the disc at all. The DVD itself is clean, no scratches or smudges or dirt. Please, for the love of God, help me think of another strategy to make this little bugger work.

Dip the DVD in soy sauce then clean it rice paper.
