How can I get a great quality dvd burn?

Right now, I have been using Memorex DVD-R disks, and I have been burning the movies from piratebay onto DVD Flick. I have not been very impressed so far. The quality is not as good, because the picture tends to be blotchy at times, and I think the disk is bad because it constantly skips. Any advice?
