What role was Sean Connery offered in The Matrix?

On the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen DVD supplementals, he mentioned that he was offered roles in The Lord Of The Rings and The Matrix. In LOTR, you can deduce he was offered Gandalf. He would have made a weird Frodo. But in The Matrix I’m not sure what role he was offered. My wife and I think he may have been offered Morpheous. Anyone out there know what role he was offered?

Strictly rumor, but I heard mention that Connery was offered the role of The Architect and that particular role was going to be bigger than it ultimately turned out to be.
