Relive The Animation Heydays With Tom And Jerry Movies
Everyone has their own favorite animated cartoon movie or television show; in fact cartoons are now a big part of a child’s early years and not to mention entertaining to adults as well. If you were young in the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s then you’ll have been lucky enough to have enjoyed the original hand drawn animated classics, like the Flintstones, The Jetsons or one of the most popular and longest running, Tom and Jerry.
Tom and Jerry movies are still aired on televisions all over the world, from China to Sweden to India each with its own translation. No one is sure exactly why these hilarious characters are so loved, though it might have to do with the simple plot lines, lovely characters and slapstick humor that anyone of any nationality and age can understand and most importantly laugh at. The series has been around since the 40’s when it was first released by the well known American movie studios MGM, now over 50 years later it has moved on from a weekly TV series into several feature length films, 7 of which have won Oscar awards for best animated shorts.
The Tom and Jerry kids cartoon movies were started by William Hanna and Joseph Barbara a creative force who also went on to develop well known animations like the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Yogi bear and Huckle Berry hound. Many people don’t realize that 2 more creative directors followed on from William and Joseph, in 1960 after some time being shut down the MGM studios hired a Czech director with a very eccentric idea for the Tom and Jerry cartoon. Unfortunately his ideas were far too out there for the studio and he was replaced by the infamous Chuck Jones.
So where did it all begin? Most people don’t realize that Tom and Jerry has had more than one creator in over 50 years of air time; the original two were the talented William Hanna and Joseph Barbara. They came to the MGM studios in the 40’s with their idea and Tom and Jerry became a reality in people’s homes. After a short time the show was cut and the team split up until the 1960’s when MGM decided to restart the project, they hired Gene Deitch for 2 years, but his eccentric creativity didn’t mix well with the show. In 1963 the studios hired a new director Chuck Jones who became the next creator of the Tom and Jerry movies.
Kids these days have grown up on a whole different level of animation and may not fully appreciate the older hand drawn shorts, but one particular film that does stand out as a middle ground is the 1993 Tom and Jerry movie. This film was directed by the 2 original creators William and Joseph and has an interesting storyline that will draw audiences in and have them laughing through out.
Tom and Jerry magic ring takes a mixture of the best scenes from the 40’s and 50’s episodes and combines them to make an amazing kids cartoon movie that will have your children and you bursting with laughter. The story starts with Tom as a wizards apprentice, he is left to guard a magic ring, unfortunately it gets stuck on Jerry’s head and the power of the ring begins to have a life of its own; Tom and Jerry scramble desperately for a way to remove the ring before the wizard returns.
