Will an Australian (Region 1) DVD play on my USA laptop?

I am trying to get an Australian DVD online but I have a USA DVD player, and the DVD is only made in Region 4 format. Will it work on my USA laptop? If not, is there some sort of software I can get to make it work? Thank you so much!

This region problem is nothing to do with any media player such as VLC.
With CD/DVD disk payers you get usually 5 region changes before it becomes locked on the last one
The software should notify you the change is taking place and how many more changes you have left.
No matter what the region is of course you will have to have a media playersomething like cyberlink powerdvd ect to play a dvd movie
