DVD question on wide screen Help !?

I bought a dvd not realizing it was wide screen. Is there anyway to change it in the menu to get it to take up the whole tv screen, it looks weird playing in just the middle of the screen. I checked all the options and couldn’t see it but just asking any experts out there

What software are you using?

I use VLC for movies and DVDs and can set the aspect ratio of any video to be the same as my TV or monitor while playing.
