Harvey Mackay began by doing, not by writing. By the time he wrote, “Dig Your Well Just before You’re Thirsty; The Only Networking Book You will Ever Need,” he had spent practically 40 years at the helm of Mackay Envelop Company. But “Dig Your Well Before You are Thirsty” takes a far more optimistic and proactive approach.
At over 300 pages and not the largest type font size inside the industry, it appears like a daunting project to start. But here’s the greatest part about this book and why it is nonetheless worth selecting up today. It is full of networking stories. Not stories about created up men and women or somebody you have never heard of, but stories about how celebrities, athletes, as properly as presidents have constructed and employed their networks. There are names you have heard of only mainly because you have shopped at their stores, like Stanley Marcus of Nieman Marcus and Len Riggio, founder and Chairman of Barnes & Noble. There are sports figures like Pat O’Brien and Muhammed Ali. Politicians from both parties which includes Bill Clinton and George Bush. The stories include things like other authors for example Stephen King, Erma Bombeck and movie stars which include Paul Newman.
I not too long ago had the chance of seeing an older movie featuring Muhammad Ali, it was known as “The Greatest.” It was one of probably the most insightful films that I’ve ever seen. It gave me first hand insight into the 60′s and 70′s, specifically in regards to African-Americans. It will need to Muhammad Ali in a light, that I’d never seen him. He was an awesome man, but the movie just gave me even more reason to like him.
The song by George Benson, referred to as “The Greatest Enjoy of All,” was on the soundtrack of the film. It was remade by Whitney Houston, and is deemed by many to be her greatest song. The film stars, Roger Mosley as Sonny Liston, he was the sidekick from Magnum P.I. It was unusual to see him in such a role, he is portrayed as a partying bully, particularly in the casino scene when he pulls a gun and shots it in a nightclub. I was blown away to see all of these actors together. You will not think it, I promise you.
