DVD Rental – Order online or stroll to the shop?
Movie madness has had a firm grip of the population for decades, and it seems to gather pace with each new release. Whether it’s mushy romance, sparkling sci-fi, explosive action, messy horror or silly spoof we all have films we enjoy on a regular basis. It’s not just a way to kill some time; it is an enjoyable ride through a different world – a short, sharp hit of escapism.
Of course, some people like films more than others, but how many can say they have never rented a movie? Renting films is the Friday night alternative to going out, and the Saturday night alternative to the hideous tripe that is on TV.
Movies can be our refuge, our solace, our escape. That is not dramatic; renting movies has become a standard practice, and we may watch a few duds, but there are always classics in the making on the horizon. Could you imagine living in a world where Aliens was not available to rent or buy? A far more horrific thought than the idea of having some rancid creature burst through your chest at meal times.
The need to rent has become so important that, like everything else, we demand it at the touch of a button.
But what about the walk or drive to the shop to choose? Is this not part of the rental experience? Perhaps we will start to miss the anticipation; the time it takes to make our choice of movie which will serve as the focal point of the evening, surrounded by others who plan an evening of movie mayhem. Perhaps the nation is gripped more by laziness than the joy of movies, which is a sad thought.
However, the online renting revolution has allowed for a much larger range of movies and the removal of late fees – something which is an undeniably awesome selling point. When Lovefilm first waded in with the concept of no late fees, people around the country who owed Blockbuster £100 were rushing to their computers with their credit cards at the ready.
With the internet comes other possibilities; Lovefilm now offers Lovefilm Player which provides movie renting on demand. In this age of instant satisfaction, the movie renting business is keeping with the pace and giving us what we want, when we want it.
The stroll to the shop is headed towards mythological status, but will remain a fond memory. More and more providers are offering online DVD rental so all we have to do is compare the DVD rental providers to find out which one offers the best and most comprehensive service.
