What are a few really good books that anyone has read?

I am in need of a few good books to read over this school year, but I want to make sure I choose some good ones. Any suggestions on some books that are very interesting with a good plot and meaningful theme?
I should add that I would prefer classics like Great Expectations, Little Women, the Memory Keepers Daughter

If it’s for school purposes, then I’d suggest reading a mix of both contemporary and classic. I don’t know which you would prefer but below are a mix of contemporary and classic novels that I believe are both equally beautiful and meaningful. I’ll put an asterix next to the classic novels. and ~ next to my favourite ones.
