The movie premier of Flight 666: Iron Maiden’s finest moment caught on film?
The 20th of April will see the London premier of Rockumentary ‘Iron Maiden:Flight 666′, filmed by Samm Dunn of ‘metal: a headbanger’s journey’ fame.Iron Maiden will be at the premier along with Maiden’s special 7th member, their zombie mascot Eddie.
The film shows the band on the first leg of 2008′s Somewhere back in time tour, where the band flew on their very own plane ‘Ed force one’, to do gigs abroad, which was flown by Maiden frontman and registered pilot Bruce Dickinson. 2008′s tour saw the band go back 20 years, playing material from the classic 1984 Powerslave set, hailed then and now as one of the best tours ever. The famed tour almost drove the band mad after two-three years on the road. I think they’ll agree it was well worth it though.
The film has taken the prestigous ’24 beats per second award’ for best music documentary at the much respected South by South West festival in Texas. For those who cant make the premier, the movie is being shown hopefully at an Odeon cinema near you on April 21st -for one night only in 42 different countries. Any maiden fan unlucky enough to miss out on both screenings need not worry -the film will be available on Blue Ray and DVD from may 25th in a months time. Which admittedly, for anyone missing the show, may seem like a long time. Also being released is the soundtrack of the movie -featuring the live tracks from concert footage of the gigs Iron Maiden played during the tour, on cd and picture disc vinyl from the same date.
The film premiers at the Odeon Kensington on Monday 20th April at 7pm. Need a venue for your London events or events? Take a look here.
