Saturday Morning Was Always A Pleasant Time
He sat up in his bed. What was that dream he just woke up from? Something told him it was about a giant bumblebee chasing him through the forest. He tried to dodge around the trees and hide under a large pine, but buzz, buzz, buzz that giant bee followed him. Man, it was fast he thought.
Then he came awake to reality. The sound wasn’t a bee inside his ear, it was the sound of his dad using the new mcculloch chainsaw out in the yard. He got down from the bed and walked to the window. They had gone to buy it at the hardware store Tuesday night. He was trying to decide between that one and another good one. He bought this one cause it was on sale. Now he was trimming.
He wandered down to the kitchen for an orange and some oatmeal. He said good morning to his mom. What chores has she got lined up for me today, he wondered. Well, I’ll get them out of the way by noon. He had plans for a pick-up basketball game with some guys from school.
His mom asked how his dad liked the new homelite chainsaw. He told her they didn’t get that one. They were both good saws but they bought the one that was on sale. Mom said well they were both supposed to be reliable. She just didn’t know he had changed his mind. She did think it was practical to buy the one on sale.
He talked about his week at school as he ate breakfast. His mom said they had a rough day at work but she was glad she had a job. He griped a little about one homework assignment in English. He was planning to read a book he had to read for school, one written by Shakespeare, this weekend. Maybe he would catch a movie too.
He went back upstairs to his comfortably cluttered bedroom. Tossing his pajamas up on his twin loft bed, he put on some jeans and a sweatshirt. He walked out in the yard to see how the trees were coming along.
Looking good, he called out as he went to inspect the improved appearance of all the trees. He knew it was a grown-up idea of fun to use the mccullogh chainsaw or ride a lawn mower around the property. He hoped to himself that he’d have more things to enjoy when he was an adult.
