Can a dvd be messed up by heat?

so i asked my friend if i can borrow his movie vatar when we got there I put it under his car seat and forgot to get it. It was still in the case under papers and in his car he says that the dvd is fucked up now because of the heat. now he says he i owe him. Is it possible for the dvd to be messed up by heat?
Plus he also has a history of being a gypsy and tricking people out of cash.

Yes, A dvd can be deformed by heat, as any other plastic can be. If the disk was left in the sun, The damage has not been done by the heat, but by the sun’s radiation, which destroys plastic.

Ask him to show to you the disk and try it out on another DVD player. I’m not sure if a DVD would simply “Melt” because of heat inside the car. He might have screwed it up himself. If you need to give back something, give him another disk, NOT money, because maybe he was trying to get back money he wasted on the DVD.
