How to develop 35mm film at home?

I bought a 35mm film camera a few days ago and I want to start processing film at home. I would like to process them into colour but I don’t know how to do it and what to get.

That’s really cool! Glad to hear you’re so ambitious about learning to use 35mm film.

It’s actually somewhat challenging and requires more expensive equipment to process colour (C41 and E6) film at home. Black and white is much easier and cheaper but is still something that you cannot be taught in a few sentences here on Yahoo! Answers. It would be best if you took a class in it actually. Otherwise, you’re going to have to do a lot of research and purchase a couple books. I highly recommend The Kodak B&W Darkroom Dataguide. Buy the newest copy you can afford from Amazon.com or the like.

You’ll want to start by using just one or two films and one developer. Most schools use Kodak TMAX 100 and TMAX 400. Then you can use TMAX developer. All the necessary tools and chemicals are listed in the Darkroom Dataguide. You’ll need:
–one or two developing tanks (I like the Omega brand ones, I certainly recommend plastic, not steel ones for a beginner)
–a thermometer
–4 1 gallon brown plastic jugs
–a couple large 40 or so oz beakers to mix chems in
–a can opener (to open the 35mm cartridge)
–a changing bag (the largest you can afford will be the most comfortable and easy to work inside
–a sink, a freezer and a shower (the sink to develop in, the freezer to help correct the temperatures of chemicals/water and a shower with a shower rod to hang your negatives from)
–negative drying hooks
–negative sleeves
–100% lint free cotton gloves (for handling negs)
–scissors (for cutting negs and sleeving them)
–chemicals:
—Kodak TMAX developer
—Kodak stop bath
—Kodak fixer
—Kodak photoflo

You can find all your supplies at BHPhoto.com or Adorama.com. I think my stuff was a little cheaper at BHPhoto.com.

You’ll also need a scanner like an Epson V500. Or you’ll have to keep taking the negatives to a pro lab to scan and print for you (assuming you can’t build a darkroom in your house for printing!)

Honestly though, I really think you should focus on learning to shoot with your camera before learning to process too. Just shooting cheap Kodak Gold and Fuji Superia then taking it to Target or the like for cheap processing and scanning. Once you understand the basics of shooting, then work on processing. Schools will have you do both at the same tyme but I think step-by-step is better/easier.

At any rate email me directly with questions at JohnnyMartyr@Hotmail.com

Good luck whatever you decide to do! Film can be very rewarding and addictive!

Saturday Night Fever is one of those movies that comes along and seems to change the cultural temperature in a flash. After the movie’s release in 1977, disco ruled the dance floors, and a blow-dried member of a TV-sitcom ensemble became the hottest star in the country. For all that, the story is conventional: a 19-year-old Italian-American from Brooklyn, Tony Manero (John Travolta), works in a hu…
