When will the Star Wars Episode III Figures Gain Value?
I have been collecting the Episode III figures by Hasbro.
I keep them mint.
Its only been 3 years since there release.
I know the orignal Kenner “A New Hope” (from the 70′s) figures go for $300 easy a peice!
So, should I expect the Episode III figures to be worth a price like that mint in 20 years?
Scott is absolutely right. I don’t think you will ever find action figures that are mass produced, like the Episode III figures, going up in value too much. In the ’70s and ’80, those figures were opened and played with as soon as they got to the store. The boxes and cards weren’t made very well. Very few people bought them and were able to keep them in mint condition. Now, its very rare that you find people who open them. Boxes and cards are made out of better materials and are printed with fade resistent ink and on paper that resists damage. You can go on ebay and probably find every figure you have in your set at or near the value that you originally paid for it. Don’t expect the value to increase like the ’70s figures did. If you’re looking for good investments on Star Wars, look for limted edition items or something that is made in a limited quantity. Those items will go up in value more than action figures that are mass marketted.
Sorry about the bad news, but I try to be realistic. The good thing is that those figures look amazing and are very poseable. Another good set was the 30th anniversary set that came out with coins in 2007. Those figures spanned the entire Star Wars universe to include EU characters. Its hard to find the ones with coins now, but you can still find the reprints without the coins.
