Is a volume of a series of manga a graphic novel?

or is a whole series one graphic novel?
Im doing a teen summer reading thing and u could include graphic novels so for example if i just read ” InuYasha vol.8″
then that would be one novel right? >:)

One manga = one graphic novel.

or

One volume = one manga.

and

A series of manga = a series of graphic novels.
