Why does my LaserDisc player play some LDs but not others?

I have a new Japanese Pioneer CLD-A100 LaserActive LD player. The player plays some LDs perfectly. but others won’t play at all. All the LDs are Japan region NTSC format, and I’ve checked them all for damage. The discs that play work every time, displaying the word “Laserdisc” when placed in the tray and playing all the way through, while the ones that don’t never even start, they just hover at “Stop” and refuse to respond. Anybody know why this is happening?

Well, it’s just a guess, but I think age combined with inferior technology is to blame. The laser lens can get dirty easily. The after a while those large discs warp if not taken care of or improperly stored. I used to have one, but junked them in favor of DVDs. I could not even give those discs away. Now I only buy new Blu-ray discs of movies I have not seen & a few select favorites. Never look back & always look ahead I say.
