TV Classics Celebrated At The TV Land Awards

The 2010 TV Land Awards, which were hosted by actor Tim Allen, was an exciting event attended by some of television’s best loved performers. Classic and contemporary stars were all on board, from “Golden Girl” Betty White to the stars of the hot show Glee. Fan Favorite and Future Classic were just a couple of the special awards given out that night.

The award for TV Land 2010 Fan Favorite went to the players from the classic show The Love Boat. Bernie Kopell and Gavin MacLeod starred in this comedy about the passengers and crew aboard a cruise ship known as The Pacific Princess. Prior to this award, The Love Boat had two Emmy nominations and four Golden Globe nominations to its name.

Younger television enthusiasts were surely thrilled to see the new favorite Glee honored with the Future Classic Award. Glee, which focuses on a high school Glee club on a mission to take a national title, was the biggest breakout television hit of 2009. TV Land surely honored it for its quirky one-liners and show stopping musical numbers, which make it unlike any other show on television.

The esteemed Legend Award was received this year by men who have both changed the face of comedy, Mel Brooks and Carl Reiner. Reiner became a television classic as a writer on The Dick Van Dyke Show, while Brooks has several classic comedies under his belt, like Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein and the Broadway hit, The Producers. This marks the first year that there have been two recipients of the Legend Award.

The Pop Culture award, given to the show with the greatest impact on popular culture, went to the popular 1970’s show Charlie’s Angels. In addition to being a much loved television series, Charlie’s Angels inspired two blockbusters starring Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore. The show’s star, Farrah Fawcett, passed away in 2009 but her co-stars, Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith, accepted the award.

The hit Everybody Loves Raymond received TV Land’s Impact Award, and stars Ray Romano and Brad Garrett were standing by to accept. As an additional honor, they were given their award by the great Bob Newhart. During the nine years that Everybody Loves Raymond aired, it was nominated for an impressive 129 awards, winning forty-nine.

The 30th anniversary of the short-lived 1980’s program Bosom Buddies was celebrated during the TV Land Awards ceremony. Jay Leno presented the prize to the actors from the show, which aired between 1980 and 1982 on ABC and on NBC in reruns during 1984. None other than the show’s most distinguished star, Tom Hanks, received the award. This show was exciting and nostalgic, similar to how one would expect Idol Gives Back 2010 to turn out.

The TV Land Awards was an eclectic show featuring television favorites old and new from a variety of different genres. An impressive caliber of stars was in attendance, from comedy legends to Academy Award winning actors. This show was a wonderful tribute to those we have grown to love as they came into our living rooms over the years. Video of this event and others, like Idol Gives Back 2010, can be seen at celebrityfootage.com.

Molly

Molly

The title character of Molly, played by Elisabeth Shue (Oscar nominee for Leaving Las Vegas), suffers from one of those afflictions that are only found in Hollywood movies: she’s sort of mentally challenged, sort of autistic–but only enough to give her a childlike appreciation of rhythmic water fountains and The Wizard of Oz. An operation that somehow activates brain cells brings Molly to a more …

Kill Bill 1 [VHS]

Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill, Vol. 1 is trash for connoisseurs. From his opening gambit (including a “Shaw-Scope” logo and gaudy ’70s-vintage “Our Feature Presentation” title card) to his cliffhanger finale (a teasing lead-in to 2004′s Vol. 2), Tarantino pays loving tribute to grindhouse cinema, specifically the Hong Kong action flicks and spaghetti Westerns that fill his fervent brain–and this …
