Children of Paradise – Marcel Carne
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly – Sergio Leone
Vertigo – Hitchcock
Star Wars (original trilogy ONLY!) – George Lucas et al.
Breathless – Godard
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre – John Huston
8 1/2 – Fellini
Love and Death – Woody Allen
Based on that, what would you recommend?
Hidden Fortress by Kurosawa, especially since it was one of the inspirations for Star Wars. Other AK films are really liked were Stray Dog and Drunken Angel. Oh, any of them with Mifune in it!
Other than that, it’s not a far leap from 8 1/2 to Gilliam’s Brazil, and Sierra Madre has a similar atmosphere in parts to Wages of Fear.
