Summer 2009 game releases
With not many good games released so far and after a little bit of a dry spell, I thought this post would make sense to ensure that people are aware of the upcoming games for the rest of the year.
There have only been a handful of great game releases so far, some of which include X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena but this is all about to pick up and the next few months are certainly something to get excited about as you will see below.
The first major release which is in a few days is the latest Guitar Hero game in the series, Guitar Hero Metallica. If you love Metallica, metal or just love Guitar Hero you will want to get this game because it comes with an awesome setlist from Metallica and aroud 20 other artists.
Another one to watch out for is Terminator Salvation which is released on the same day as Guitar Hero Metallica. This game is based upon the storyline of the upcoming fouth Terminator film. It’s hard to say if this game will be any good because it’s based upon a movie and movie games can sometimes be rubbish.
Now, heading into the beginning of June, you can look forward to seeing some of the following:
The Sims 3, although I am not at all a fan of these games, no doubt this one will be massively popular and you can expect everything you love from the original games, aswell as a whole bundle of new features to discover.
The next game on the list is Prototype, a new type of game really but hopefully it will prove to be successful. It would have been nice to see a demo of this game before it’s released but I guess there’s still some time.
Every Batman fan will want to get this game, Batman Arkham Asylum. The new Batman Arkham Asylum game looks amazing and hopefully we won’t be let down. There is some confusion about the release date though because as yet it is unconfirmed because it was planned for June, however, there was some news that the game was delayed and no new date was given.
Ghostbusters is the next movie based game, although it’s meant to be released on the same day as the Batman Arkham Asylum game. There is some confusion around the release date of this one aswell because there are rumours that Sony have payed for an exclusive rights period for the PS3, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Into July we are going to see the release of the latest Harry Potter game to co-inside with the release of the movie, however, just like the Terminator game, the quality of this game is questionable. I’m pretty sure though that the majority of Potter fans will want to get hold of this game whether it’s good or not.
Now comes the games that are set later in the year and on the run up to Christmas. These include Dirt 2, the sequel to the amazingly popular Dirt game which brought rally racing games to life. Other games include Max Payne 3 and The Beatles Rock Band which is being released along side a wide array of new instruments for the game based on The Beatles designs. Another addition to the Need for Speed series is also planned, Need for Speed Shift aswell as Starcraft 2, Bioshock 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2 and finally Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 which is most likely going to be the biggest hit of the year.
There is certainly a huge amount of games to look forward to on the run up to Christmas and I’m positive that a few more will appear on the radar as we get closer to the big day.
