Miss Sunshine
Everyone needs to get pushed ! Even Sunshine Coast Personal Trainers!
I live at the beautiful Glass House Mountains with my fiancé and my six dogs ! Yes, I have 4 beagles, a Doberman and a Great Dane who keep me very busy.
When I go on my morning run, as part of my Sunshine Coast Personal Training program, I only take Audi the Doberman, she is well behaved off the lead and makes my run enjoyable. If I take the rest of them, I have to attach 3 beagles (Indie, Boogie & Busa) to my waist as they cannot be trusted off the leash to go and chase wallabies (say goodbye for 2 hours or more if I do !). They then pull me along at a ridiculous pace whilst I have to avoid the Great Dane in my hand on a leash because he gets so tangled up, and then Audi the Doberman is about 50m out in front, and Scout the lazy beagle runs about 50m behind.
I still think children would be more difficult though !
So anyway, if I don’t want to take the rest of the dogs I have to distract them by throwing a cup of food and sneaking out. Otherwise they’ll stand at the fence howling waking up the neighbours at 6am.
BUT ! As I discovered this morning, they have already figured me all out and instead of howling, they eat the food at their leisure, and then just dig under the fence and escape ! Imagine my surprise when I’m running along listening to my ipod, a million miles away and Hey !!
That’s my dog running beside me, and then hey there’s two more of them !
Now, we live on a pretty quiet country road, there are hardly any cars but, just my luck – the garbage truck had just arrived.
If you have had anything to do with beagles, you will know that they are extremely disobedient and naughty puppies especially if they get on a scent. So, I had to do a juggling act to make sure that a lively Doberman and 3 untrustworthy beagles would not run off into the paddocks, and that they would follow me home and not get squashed by the rubbish truck.
It ended up being this bizarre interval training session, beagle friendly game which involved me sprinting and calling out all their names to get ahead of the truck whilst it was stopped so I could get as much distance between us and the truck.
Then I would have to stop and grab their collars whilst the garbage truck moved up the 30m to the next driveway – I can only imagine what he was thinking of this strange dog lady ! Then once he stopped, off I went once again ! I thought I was working hard before – but man the joke was on me ! I was annihilated after only 400 m of this, at the end of a 20 minute run and on the verge of vomiting !
I had my own Sunshine Coast Personal Trainers, 4 of the canine variety !
Those naughty beagles have definitely made sure that I won’t be leaving them at home again !
So! As I reached the house, absolutely shattered I realised that there were 3 morals to this story
1. No one should miss out on their morning run (because even Beagles get upset if they miss out!)
2. Everyone needs to get pushed outside their comfort zone, and even when you think you’re working hard - You can definitely work harder !
3. Don’t try and trick anyone out of their daily exercise – because they will make you pay for it in the end.
