Paris is a famous city renowned the world-over for its beauty and air of romance. Overflowing with sights and sounds, it is hard to select only three must-visit destinations. One iconic place to visit is the Eiffel Tower in the 7th arrondissement. Built as the entrance arch for the 1889 World’s Fair, the Eiffel Tower is Paris’ tallest building and is today the most visited paid monument in the world. Another must-visit place in Paris is the Louvre Museum, arguably the world’s most famous and largest museum. Housed in the Louvre Palace which was initially commissioned as a fortress in the 12th century, the current building was eventually turned into a museum in 1793. The Louvre contains 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments. Artefacts from as ancient as the Neolithic period are displayed here, but Perhaps the best-known item inside is Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa painting.
The Notre Dame Cathedral rounds up this list. Whether or not you’re an appreciator of Gothic architecture, this building is bound to capture your attention. Known as one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in the world, the Notre Dame is truly a historical and architectural gem. Be awed at its magnificent architecture and intricate carvings within. Built in 1163, it has gone through much vandalism throughout the years but stands till today, functioning as the official Roman Catholic Church of the Archbishop of Paris. Notre Dame’s acclaimed bourdon bell, Emmanuel, is tolled every hour of the day and for different special occasions and services.
Though relatively a small city, the number of prominent museums, galleries, parks and monuments in Paris is mind-blowing. It is truly a city of beauty, history and culture, and a trip here is bound to leave you feeling awed, enriched and refreshed.
