Why does the person who hits a hole in one have to buy everyone in the club house a drink?

Shouldn’t this be the other way around? I never understood why the person who actually got the hole in one had to buy everyone in the clubhouse a drink. I have looked long and hard to see how this started but I cannot find anything.

Well I think it was about repaying your good luck and a humble act of buying people a drink when you make a hole in one.
