Met Operas on Blu-Ray? WHY NOT?
Why is the Metropolitan Opera offer of Blu-Ray Operas so poor!? Only two: “Bellini: I Puritani” and “Onegin”
WHAT about “Puccini: La Boheme” and “Puccini – Manon Lescaut” or “Humperdinck – Hansel and Grete” …. all 3 were published in >2008< but did not have a multi-release including both DVD and Blu-Ray. They are all (except for the 2 mentioned above) DVD only.
WHY IS THAT? Best answer for more reasonable suggestions.
ROI: Return on Investment.
If the MET isn’t able to recoup the mastering expenses for making a Blu-Ray disk, they’re not going to do it. Maybe they ran I Puritani and Eugene Onegin up the flagpole to see what kind of breeze they would catch.
Or they didn’t have the the equipment available to them to shoot and master the others.
… I’d love to see them put out Bizet’s La damnation de Faust … though Blu-Ray would take a bit of video cleanup from what was aired in theaters.
