- Think of a Theme
This could be a favourite movie, television series, children’s book, cartoon, toy, fairy tale, era or anything that you really like. Once you’ve thought of your theme you can think about characters within that theme.

Obviously temperature will also depend on the time of year so it’s important to think about the season before you plan your costume appropriately.

A fancy dress party should be fun so you might as well make the run up to it fun as well. Why not get together before a party and plan your costume with friends or a loved one, you can even plan to wear matching outfits.
If you don’t know much about the chosen theme you could do some research by watching some movies or flicking through books and magazines to look at the pictures.
If you enjoy making things why not try creating your own outfit and then accessorise to finish if off. Why not invite your friends over to dress up in your costumes and travel together to the party to make it more fun.

Accessories are probably the most important part of any fancy dress costume. They can help to make an affordable costume amazing and they can make you feel really in character.
Accessories are the ideal way to add something special to a fancy dress outfit and make it stand out from anyone else’s outfit.
If you accessorise well your fancy dress costume will look amazing as you will have paid attention to the details of your chosen character and this will also show how much effort you’ve made with your costume. Pretty much all accessories are available to buy on the internet so whatever costume you decide on you can make it fabulous with only a little extra effort.
