Red Cliff

Taking Skye Vacations: A Short Introduction
The island of Skye is the most suitable vacation destination for walkers and water sports enthusiasts. Located amongst a group of islands known as the Inner Hebrides a short break on the Isle of Skye is an incredible and unique experience. A great many tourists visit the Scottish Highlands to enjoy the spectacular scenery and many readily agree that the Inner Hebrides feature the top-quality and most majestic. In the following article I examine at some of the factors which help make the Isle of Skye is such a excellent place to take a vacation.
Places To Visit On Skye
Although it is not situated on the island no visit would be complete without a day trip to Eilean Donan Castle. One of Scotland’s most photographed monuments the castle has also starred in numerous movies including the 1985 cult classic “Highlander”. The castle is privately owned but, for an entrance fee, you can meander around the well equipped castle or take part in a guided tour. The castle is only fifteen minutes from the Skye Bridge.
The only real mountain range in Britain is The Cuillin which offer fantastic opportunities for climbing. In total the jagged Black Cuillins features 12 munros with Sgurr Alasdair being the tallest at 992 m (3,255 ft).
The Isle of Skye only has two Corbetts (Glamaig is the highest) and both are situated in the Red Hills. The Black Cuillin are exposed rock at their summits whereas the Red Hills (often incorrectly named the Red Cuillin) are much softer featuring vegetation to the summits.
If you want to indulge in climbing please seek advice as it can be incredibly dangerous, especially if you are ill equipped. Too many people find themselves in difficulties after a dramatic shift in the weather, always be prepared for the worst. You can access the Black Cuillin from Glen Brittle and the Red Hills from Glen Sligachan.
Local Attractions are the Talisker distillery, Armadale Castle Gardens and Museum of the Isles, Bright Water Visitor Centre, Colbost Croft Museum, Skye Museum of Island Life, the Glendale Toy Museum, Giant Macaskill Museum and Dunvegan Castle. The stronghold of the Macleods of Dunvegan and Harris, Dunvegan Castle, is proudly situated upon a cliff-top. The Isle of Skye has a mild climate and is much lusher than most other islands in the Hebrides and this is made abundantly clear in the fantastic gardens of the castle, you will also find a restaurant and craft shop which help make it perfect for a day out.
Overlooking the Isle of Raasay, the seaside village of Broadford has a selection of much needed facilities but is also rather nice spot to spend a number of hours. The village has some excellent sea views however the number one place to call should be the petite, but immensely fascinating, Skye Serpentarium Reptile World where you really can indulge in some hands on experience!
Hotel accommodation on Skye appear here there and everywhere and it isrelatively easy to find one however finding one with vacancies is a different story altogether. It is important to remember that it is a good idea to make reservations as early as possible when doing so please take a look at our listings of Isle of Skye hotel accommodation.
