Roxy Music

How come the art/prog/pop band Roxy Music was never able to be successful in the US?

I was listening to some of their stuff and wow they’re an absolutely great band….but while they have alot of great material, they have an equal amount of total crap. Anyway, i never understood why they never charted in America

kinda like the velvets nobody listened to them but most all that saw them started a band.
