Great Television Show Box Sets Make Fantastic Christmas Gifts
It is that time of year again. Some Horrible Version of Jingle Bells is playing on the radio and just about everyone has their Christmas lights up. It’s time to find some gifts for your family again.
I think box sets make good Christmas presents and each year there are new box sets available for music, movies, and TV. For example, this year the Remastered Lennon Signature Compact Disc Box Set came out to celebrate what should have been the legendary Beatle’s 70th birthday. This box set includes Imagine, Plastic Ono Band, Double Fantasy, and the rest of his solo albums.
The Lost Complete Series DVD Box Set also came out this year. Lost finished its run after six glorious years as one of the most suspenseful and surprising series in television history. It’s a fantastic gift for anyone who loves the show and an even better present to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet. I would really love to be able to see it all for the first time again!
A box set that contains a full TV series really makes a fantastic gift. Of course that’s only true if it’s a box set of a really great show! Here are five TV box sets that I suggest:
David Lynch’s Twin Peaks. This show only lasted for two seasons and it’s 20 years old now. But it’s definitely one of the greatest television shows ever to its fans. If you know someone who likes weird things, this is the box set for them.
Freaks and Geeks. Another fantastic show that got canceled after a short run. This one only made it for one season of 18 shows. But it was a truly great one year. Each and every episode is a true classic. A really funny show with some good drama too.
HBO’s Six Feet Under. This is a good selection for any thoughtful family member or friend. I think this is among the greatest television programs ever. It is about the most serious subject matter (death) but it’s also very funny at times (usually in a pretty dark sort of way.)
The Wire. Another amazing HBO program. I won’t even start talking about this show because I’m worried it’ll come out ridiculously over the top. I really think this show is so good it’s difficult to put into words. It’s an absolute “must see.”
Seinfeld. Somehow these episodes can be seen over and over again and still be enjoyable. Might be a good choice for someone who was too young to experience it in the ’90s.
