For along time police have been using a huge amount of resources to catch and punish people that speed on the road. For each time you get captured driving fast you get given a certain percentage of points on your licence, once these points have been reached you could potentially end up losing the licence completely.
A vast amount of people are annoyed at the fact that there are so many speed cameras popping up, they believe it is because people want to profit from them.
Well a new device that is currently in trial in London could eliminate all of this as it will stop people from speeding even the slightest; basically the device in your car will track where you are like a sat navigation system, and it will be able to tell the speed limits around the current location. The car will basically obide by the rules so no matter how much you accelerate if there is a speed limit you will never be able to go over it.
In the £400,000 trial, sophisticated under-bonnet satellite equipment will ensure that each car always "knows" precisely where it is. This data will be automatically matched with an on-board digital map containing details of road speed limits. None of this though will affect the breaking or functioning of the car.
This is something that is actually great for police, as they can spend a huge amount of resources actually catching criminal instead of people speeding. I.E. the vehicle would fail to start if they were over the limit.
