Problems connecting to widescreen computer through remote desktop connection?

I’m trying to use a Windows XP computer to remote to a Windows 7 computer. The 7 is set to widescreen display. Originally, there was a standard monitor attached to the XP computer, which didn’t display the desktop for the 7 correctly. I attached a widescreen monitor to the XP and that didn’t fix the issue. Is this a communication error between XP and 7, or is there a setting somewhere that I can change to make it display properly?

Use the Options button of RDP to adjust the screen resolution and other features.
