Why Are There No High Definition Stand Alone Recorders?

I want to record tv shows in HD. I don’t want to pay a monthly service like Tivo or to the cable company. I just want a stand alone recorder, like a VCR or a DVD recorder, both of which I can easily find, but I want a HD recorder. Looks like Tivo is the only game in town. Am I missing something? Why doesn’t anyone make a standalone HD recorder?
