DVD burner for laptop winks travel mate270?

I want to purchace a dvd burner for my laptop and I am unsure of what to choose. Is there a difference between a dvd burner and a dvd writer? or are they the same? any advice would be helpful I live in aust and am computer illiterate.

writer/burner the same … there are differences in WHAT they will burn as far as media types … get one that burns all formats of dvds’ not just “dvd+r” only for example …i got a NEC from newegg.com and its the best one for a laptop ive personally had out of 4.
