What do you do about troublesome reoccurring dreams?

I have them often and there are two different kinds. One is about a certain geographical area where I once owned land and lived happily for several years but the dreams about this place borderline on nightmares. Another bad dream seems that my wife and I are stranded in some large city broke hungry and helpless. These dreams have ben occurring and reoccurring for years now and they trouble me deeply.

A city signifies a sense of community and your social environment. If you dream of a big city, then it suggests that you need to develop closer ties and relationships. You are feeling alienated and alone.They may be a feelings that you are not expressing in your life.I didnt get the first part.
