Just on ebay to buy a DVD but it says Regions 2 and 4 or Region 1 What are these?

I play my DVDs on my television Can someone help me please as I would like to pay for it One DVD is about 80p different as its R1 Dont care about cost just want to know if I should buy 1 or R2 Thanks for your help

The regions are meant to be played for the area you live in and most likely you have a DVD player that is set for that region.
